SHIFT Project Status - September, 2022
The SHIFT program is happy to announce our new integrated work management system will be AssetWorks!
After more than a year of work and many years of anticipation, we are ready to implement a new IWMS technology. We are happy to inform you that we are in the final stages of procuring the AssetWorks product and moving into the implementation phase of SHIFT. We expect agreements to be signed this week. Congratulations!
We would like to offer sincere thanks to Jim Maloney, Kristy Long, Rob Hermstein, and Roy Delgado who all assisted with our contract negotiation on behalf of UMD.
The goal of the SHIFT project remains to support facilities operations on campus including FM, Residential Facilities, Dining Services, RecWell and Stamp.
We have all been waiting for this moment for a long time and we know you likely have a lot of questions. We will continue to share project details with you as they are available. In the meantime, we would like to share the following high-level timeline:
Our First 8 to 10 Weeks:
Week 0: Project planning with our AssetWorks partners
- Review roles, responsibilities and deliverables
- Finalize and share timelines
- Schedule a kick-off meeting with workstream leads and key stakeholders
Week 1: SHIFT Implementation starts!

- UMD will submit sample data to be used in design and testing
- Initial training begins
Weeks 2-3
- AssetWorks will begin business process design and testing with our sample data
Weeks 4 - 7
- AssetWorks will review our business process analysis work that we have been collecting over the past six months from you and your teams
- Together, we will move into future business process design with our workstream leads and SMEs.
Week 8 - 10
- IT teams will run our current facilities data (location data, projects, work tickets, employees, etc.) through our new business processes
Who’s on the SHIFT Team?
It’s been a while since we shared everyone who has been working on SHIFT for you:
Our greatest resource remains our employees. You are the ones that do critical and important facilities work on a daily basis. SHIFT is a tool to help make your jobs easier and more efficient. We all know it will take time to learn and become familiar with a new system. Some of us will learn quickly and some of us may take more time to find comfort. Regardless, I know that our entire team will rise to the challenge and make this project a success!
What’s Next?
As we move into implementation, so will you! Upcoming opportunities include:
- Attend AssetWorks product demonstrations
- Review and test future business processes
- Become a Change Champion
- Participate in training and become a trainer
- Visit the SHIFT website
- Share your thoughts with us at the SHIFT email address.
We now turn our attention to the future, to what can be, and to how we will support each other in this transition.
Thank you for your contributions to SHIFT!
